TS-1100
CWDM/DWDM platform for delivery of high-capacity business data services
The Transmode TS-1100 is a simple, scalable and intelligent platform that is ideally suited to network operators delivering managed services such as Metro Ethernet and Storage Area Networks to Enterprises and other bandwidth-hungry organisations.
The low cost, operational simplicity, broad protocol support and pay-as-you-grow architecture of the TS-1100 makes it equally appealing to this same group of end-users deploying their own private networks over leased fibre.
The TS-1100 provides unparalleled service flexibility, handling protocols such as Ethernet, Fibre Channel, SDH/SONET, ESCON and Digital Video transparently from a single card type.
TS-1100 is field-proven in mission-critical applications such as Storage Area Networks, Business Continuity, delivery of revenue-generating Ethernet services, and infrastructure for mobile and triple-play networks.
Design philosophy
The TS-1100 is designed from the ground up, based on three fundamental design principles:
- System cost: The core technology is optimised for Metro applications and allows the cost to be as low as possible. Pluggable optics based Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM) and Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) are chosen to achieve this goal.
- Simplicity: The product is extremely simple to install, operate and maintain, in order to minimize operational costs. iWDM technology, with automatic protocol and bit-rate detection, minimises the provisioning effort required for service activation. The result is a true “plug-and-forget” system operation.
- Scalability: A modular and scalable product minimises first-in costs and allows a pay-as-you-grow approach to capacity expansion. In this way, network operators can closely align CAPEX investment with service revenues, and enterprises can deploy exactly the capacity they require at optimum cost.
Features & benefits
- iWDM, with patented automatic protocol and bit-rate detection, dramatically reduces operational costs
- Modular design keeps first-in cost as low as possible and allows hitless capacity upgrade
- Single transponder type for all services minimises inventory and simplifies planning
- Simple to install, commission and operate: services can be activated within minutes from unpacking.
- Highly intuitive and feature-rich web-based management system, can be used from any computer with a web browser
- Network Management via standards-based SNMP.
- SFP & XFP-based pluggable optics on line and client side for maximum flexibility
- CWDM and EDFA amplifiers to extend reach
- Future-proof: system design supports hybrid CWDM/DWDM architecture, allowing CWDM deployments to expand well beyond the 16 channels allowed by CWDM-only systems.
- Universal Aggregator family of plug-in units increases port density and lowers the cost per channel
- Low-cost, versatile 2 x Gigabit Ethernet / Fibre Channel for Ethernet and SAN applications
- Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer allows deployment in point-to-point, linear add/drop, hubbed ring and meshed ring configurations.
- High resilience through traffic protection and equipment redundancy.
Applications
Storage Area Networking
The TS-1100 handles a range of SAN-protocols like Fibre Channel, ESCON, FICON and Ethernet in the most costeffective and scalable way possible. By combining multiple protocols transparently on to a single fibre pair, fibre leasing costs can be dramatically reduced. iWDM technology allows any of the above storage protocols to be delivered from a single card type, transparently and with no provisioning required.
Adding additional capacity to the system is extremely easy thanks to our modular design approach. This allows for a true "Pay as you Grow" approach to expansion, and the addition of new channels has no impact whatsoever on existing services.
The required resiliency for mission-critical storage applications is achieved by traffic protection options, allowing diverse routing of data in the event of failures such as fibre cuts.
Metro Ethernet
Metro Ethernet services are rapidly increasing in importance in today's marketplace. Applications such as LAN extension (via Ethernet Private Lines or Virtual Private LAN Service) and high speed Internet not only dramatically cut Enterprise networking costs, they also facilitate fundamental changes in IT Infrastructure such as server consolidation.
The TS-1100 platform delivers Metro Ethernet services either natively, by connecting directly to existing Gigabit or Fast Ethernet interfaces on customer equipment (ELine), or in conjunction with higher-layer technologies such as MPLS, Resilient Packet Ring, or SDH/SONET. For each of these cases, the transparent nature of the TS-1100 means that the same transponder type can be used, providing a highly flexible platform covering all eventualities.
