Marconi

Marconi is a global communications and information technology company that provides next-generation synchronous digital network (SDH) platforms that are designed and optimized to deliver voice, data and video services, as well as to cross-connect and manage networks carrying voice, packet and cell-based traffic - everything from full-payload support to low-density services, even bandwidth on demand over SDH virtual path rings. It's an extremely cost-effective way to leverage your existing facilities and extend access with right-sized, right-priced services.

Marconi Multiservice Access System (MAS)

The Marconi MAS, formerly known as the OSR from Positron Fiber Systems or the Soneplex AM from ADC provides a simple, optimized solution to broadband access for capturing more of the exploding voice, data, and video markets. As a result, service providers can deploy services faster and reduce hardware costs, while offering the flexible, competitively priced services the market demands. Based on the strong, robust, and reliable synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) platforms, the MAS provides optimized access solutions for both central office (CO) and customer premise applications.

MAS Platform

The MAS platform is designed to address different types of applications in various conditions. To address these needs, each MAS configuration is designed from a choice of shelves (MAS STD Shelf, MAS XTD Shelf, MAS XTS Shelf, MAS Micro Shelf, and MAS Micro Wallmount Unit [WMU]); optical modules; and electrical, optical, and data interfaces. Using single-stage multiplexing, MAS shelf systems are incredibly flexible, cost-effective, configurable, and compact. The systems can be upgraded from OC-3 to OC-48 and from STM-1 to STM-4 by simply changing fiber interface cards.

MAS STD Shelf

  • Cost-effective delivery of voice, data, and video services
  • Ideal for medium- to low-fill SONET/SDH access applications, such as corporate center/campus
  • Compact and easy to install and maintain

A high-speed OC-3/OC-12 and STM-1/STM-4 shelf that allows access to up to three STS-1/TUG-3 of bandwidth. It is a 14-inch standard shelf that is mountable in a 19-inch rack, a 23-inch rack, in a cabinet, or on a wall.

MAS XTD Shelf

  • Cost-effective delivery of voice, data and video services
  • Ideal for head-end applications, including CO
  • Compact and easy to install and maintain

A high-speed shelf that allows access to up to 12 STS-1/TUG-3 of bandwidth. It is a two-level, 14-inch standard shelf taht is mountable in either a 19-inch or 23-inch rack, in a cabinet, or on a wall

MAS XTS Shelf

  • Cost-effective delivery of voice, data and video services
  • Ideal for OC-12 or OC-48 rings with medium-fill SONET/SDH access applications
  • Compact and easy to install and maintain

A high-speed add/drop multiplexer (ADM) shelf that allows access to up to 12 STS-1/TUG-3 of bandwidth. It is a 23-inch standard shelf that is mountable in a 23-inch rack, in a cabinet, or on a wall.

MAS Micro Shelf

  • Cost-effective delivery of voice, data and video services
  • Ideal for very-low-fill SONET and/SDH applications, including small office, school, utilities, and cellular sites
  • Compact and easy to install and maintain

A size-reduced MAS shelf specifically designed for low-density cabinet and customer-premise applications. The MAS Micro Shelf is available in DS-1/E1 and DS-3/E3 configurations.

MAS Micro Wallmount Unit (WMU)

  • Wallmountable unit perfect for unrestricted areas
  • Ideal for very-low-fill SONET and SDH applications, including small office, school, utilities, and cellular sites
  • Compact and easy to install and maintain

A locking cabinet that includes a MAS Micro Shelf, a DS-1/E1 patch panel with cabling for the DS-1/E1 shelf, a battery, and an AC/DC converter. The MAS Micro WMU is available in three versions: an eight DS-1/E1 unprotected configuration; a four E1 unprotected/protected or up to eight DS-1 unprotected/protected configuration; and a DS-3/E3 protected configuration.
