Hatteras Networks

Mid-band ethernet services over copper

Hatteras Networks Ethernet Edge solutions enable Carriers and Service Providers to offer their full Metro Ethernet service offering over existing copper facilities to address the 88% of business sites where fiber is not available.

Hatteras Networks carrier class Ethernet service delivery Product Family enables service providers to deliver broadband services to businesses over the existing last-mile, copper infrastructure. Hatteras' Ethernet access and transport systems allow service providers to fully leverage the benefits of offering data, voice over IP, and video services over an Ethernet network. With a low initial cost and plug-and-play installation, the product family easily scales from point-to-point applications to multi-point applications serving hundreds of customers from a single wiring center (Central Office, Remote Terminal, Pole, or Vault).

Hatteras products allow multiple services per port using our patented VLAN product architecture to provide both E-Line and E-LAN services as defined by the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF). With this feature, Hatteras systems offer true Quality-of-Service going beyond the simple Class-of-Service solutions offered today.
In cases where maximum port density is required, Hatteras' patented Virtual Node enables service providers to deploy multiple load-sharing systems as a single managed entity. Unlike other vendor offerings, our VN is managed as a single node providing a fully redundant architecture and industry leading port density.

Applications

With Hatteras' Product Family, service providers can economically grow their product offerings from a cost-effective point-to-point single service to larger, point-to-multipoint deployments with multiple service offerings. The illustrations below demonstrate how the Hatteras Product Family economically supports growth while efficiently adding services.
The figure below demonstrates a low-cost alternative for delivering broadband services at the fringes of the customer service area (CSA) using the HN400 series of products. This application is ideal for areas where growth is minimal or in test markets where service demand has yet to be proven.

The following illustration demonstrates how an HN4000 can be added after a success-based carrier approach to marketing is achieved and there is clear demand for high-density applications from a single wiring center (Central Office, Remote Terminal, Pole, or Vault).

As customer demand grows, the HN4000 VN addresses the additional demand for connectivity from a wiring center by seamlessly integrating multiple HN4000 systems into one virtual node. Demonstrating even more versatility, the HN4000 and HN4000 VN can also be deployed in remote terminal applications as shown below.
