Arcadiz Telecom’s turnkey solution offers 100x faster connection to the internet.
Leuven, 13 March, 2008 --- Arcadiz Telecom today announced that it has successfully implemented a turnkey optical network over optical fiber to connect higher education institutions in Belgium to the internet. The Belnet new optical Metro Ethernet transmission network connects 17 higher education institutions via Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) over optical fiber to the main points of presence (pop) of the new Belnet 10G backbone, thus providing the academic and scientific community reliable and high speed connectivity to the internet.
Arcadiz Telecom’s turnkey solution, includes design, installation and first through third level 24x7 on-site maintenance. “Arcadiz Telecom designed an extremely reliable and fully flexible solution that on top of a 100x faster connection to the internet, allows for precise diagnostics in case of failure, which translates in low operational expenses.”, says Jan Torreele, Belnet’s technical director.
The network is managed through a client server Network Managing System (NMS) providing comprehensive remote diagnostics and provisioning as well as early warnings.
Secure and reliable data transmission is rapidly becoming a critical issue for many organisations. “As a preferred partner of most of the leading suppliers in the market and a trusted supplier of many operators, Arcadiz Telecom is well positioned in this growing segment. In addition, our yearlong expertise allows us to come up with tailor-made systems design that meets all present and future requirements of our customers,” says Jos Vermeylen, Arcadiz Telecom.

About BELNET - "The knowledge network"
BELNET is a federal government agency with a separate management within the Federal Research policy department. BELNET provides Internet access with a very high bandwidth to Belgian educational institutes, research centres and government departments. More than 550,000 end-users use bandwidths of up to 2.5 gigabits a second; this is about a thousand times faster than the Internet access available to most consumers. References include all Belgian universities and most non-university higher education institutions, the computer network of the Federal Government departments (FedMAN), all federal scientific bodies, the largest public research centres and various government administrations. BELNET provides high-quality, secure Internet access via CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team) and a direct connection with worldwide research networks, including the American Internet2 and the European Géant. A pioneer of the internet, BELNET was founded in 1993 on the initiative of the Federal Research Policy. The network continues to further the cause of research, training and scientific co-operation.
