DWDM Fiber Characterization

Today’s network architecture is often based on a Ethernet layer which on has on its turn it foundations on a DWDM network running over an optical fibre plant.

The optical characteristics of the deployed fiber are quite diverse, depending on type of fiber, age and condition. As the transport of high speed services from 10G onwards over DWDM networks can be severely impacted by the quality of the fiber, these real-live measurements are important to determine the feasibility of the design. These measurements will as well save capex if performed prior to the design phase to allow right-sizing the optical components.

Arcadiz Telecom measures the fiber characteristics of your fibers, inclusive optical loss, polarization mode dispersion and chromatic dispersion. With the measured characteristics, the network design will not need over dimensioning to mitigate the risk, as is the case with a design based on estimated or calculated fiber characteristics.
